Favella FC's second annual Citywide FIFA Tournament of Champions

I had the pleasure of attending Favella FC's second annual Citywide FIFA Tournament of Champions. Embassy Public House hosted the event, serving up compelling drama and cool beverages throughout a long and competitive afternoon!

Favella FC has been active in the community — promoting soccer, hosting tournaments, organizing watch parties for major events, and even putting together friend and family feasts. I spoke with Nico, one of the group’s founders, who warmly welcomed me to their second annual FIFA Tournament.

The tournament was already underway, with 16 participants locked in battle across the back half of the Embassy Public House. Three different big screens were in use, while the waiting contenders eagerly watched as the field of competitors was gradually narrowed down.

Favella FC continues to find interesting and exciting ways to engage the community in Chicago. The spreadsheet they used to track competition statistics was truly impressive — perhaps worthy of any professional E-Sports tournament.

The Embassy’s Tábhairneoir (owner), Paul, has made it a personal mission to be an ambassador for the global game here in Chicago. They’re always hosting events, and the space is filled with some fantastic memorabilia — especially if you happen to be a fan of Brian Clough. But that’s a story for an upcoming post. Thanks, everyone!
